It was 3pm - I arrived to metal detector hire search a 1.2km looped running track that Bianca jogs frequently. The target was a beautiful 36 diamond 25 mm pendant that has a matching ring of equal distinctive qualities. As it turned out, the emotional value of this ring far outweighed any dollar value countless times over. A few days prior to my call from Bianca, she had discovered much to her dismay, the clasp of her strong pendant chain impossibly had opened snagged on her top, while jogging that day. Her mother’s irreplaceable pendant was missing. This isn’t just any pendant. It was the one her mother gave to her and formed an emotional connection between them regardless of distance apart. I heard how Bianca’s loving family diligently searched the path numerous times to try and recover it over several days as the path was frequented by many people on walks. Bianca’s Husband wisely put up a few reward posters as many honest people still exist and look for clues as to the real owner. I also added my own reward posters with my own phone number as I can shield people and lady owners from nuisance calls and preserve their privacy. After Bianca and I surveyed the route she took around the jogging track in Chipping Norton, I started metal detecting as fast as I could go without missing items. Many people frequented the path and hope of finding such a distinctive item was diminishing with time. Night was falling, Bianca’s son stopped by to warn me that some drug users frequent the area at night. I thanked him for his advice but stayed detecting and making sure the first leg of the path was completely search both sides before I left. I informed Bianca via sms of a nil result. I would have to return fresh the next day. The following day was glorious and I started out in good spirits to finish off the 1.2km track, (both sides that are 2.2km of detecting). I started where I left off the night before with the highest of level of focus I could muster a kilometre of search area to go. I found over 250 metal junk items. I detected no fewer than two swampy foot bridges until it was the 11th hour and I was on the last 50 metre leg of the path I could see the path end in sight yet giving up wasn’t an option until last 1mm is searched. Another signal, like so many before but this time sitting on its edge, nearly invisible under a small sapling gum tree, a sight to behold when Bianca’s mother’s pendant flipped face up into my hand sparkling brilliantly in the sun. It was like holding a piece of the sun in my hand; I was so pleased it was found. A weight lifted as I had fathomed its emotional importance to Bianca, of whom I later found out, had been so worried and upset that she hadn’t eaten or slept properly since its loss which effects most people this way. When I told her it was found over the phone she needed time to let her feelings to change from that of deep loss to restoration and beyond. I gave the pendant to her son who was at home so he could reassure his mother it was indeed found and safe once more home where it belonged. I was invited back later that day to a very warm smiling family.(Found pendant on the right hand side of photo.)

Reunited jewellery
In Hindu tradition when people save people from ordeals and bring peace of mind, Bianca whole heartedly called Jewellery Rescue and “myself , a god for the day”. Well this was a compliment which touched me – that my efforts were appreciated so. I even today let that positive compliment amongst others good will power my search efforts in the most toughest detecting conditions to support new search efforts near or far. But reality remains constant I can’t always overcome all adversities and recover all people’s jewellery no matter how hard we want, will it or search. We care at Jewellery Rescue on all of our metal detector hire jobs that much we can guarantee. My thanks to Bianca and her family her hospitality, the generous reward has enabled me to do my brand of positive good in the elsewhere.

Jewellery Rescue Customer Joan writes
(Melbourne, Doncaster)
Dear Tony,
Firstly, I just want to say Thank you!
When I called you this morning from Melbourne you imediately said that you will try to help me find my mothers heirloom and that you have people all over Australia with professional equipment. I instantly though that this gentleman, is experienced and understanding of the fact that my bracelet had a sentermental value to me as it was given to me from my mother that had passed away when I was young.
“No job is too small or too big for Jewellery Rescue” It is just a bracelet!
You were so forthcoming in getting one of your people from Melbourne to call me. We then made arrangements to meet Ben, in a Park in Melbourne’s East at 7:00pm. He had the relevant equipment to help me find the bracelet.
The outcome was that I found my mothers heirloom, the bracelet she gave me that reminded me of my mother!Again, Thank you Tony for all your help and Thank you to Ben for finding the bracelet and I can only recommend you to anyone that needs to find Jewellery or there like to give you a call. You and your team are the Best!!
Regards, Joanne
Ben and family team, highly skilled Jewellery Rescue Metal detectorist Account of events..
It all started when i got a call from JR ( Jewellery rescue ) saying he had a job for me for $100 this afternoon, a woman had lost a 22k gold ankle chain ( a gift from her mother that had past away ) while playing cricket in a park about 20min from my place, JR gave me her pH number & after a bit of phone tag arranging a time & place to meet it was all teed up, so i packed my weapon of choice for the hunt – the two ACE250s fit the bill as it can pick up very small targets & can separate items very well in high trash. so off me, my wife & the kids went with the thrill of the hunt in our veins
, we met up at the arranged place & after i gained a description of the lost item we were off,
now i had a very low expectations of finding the chain as it was very small & we had a large area to detect but ya cant keep a good man down or good wife
so we went at it like a bull at a gate
.
we hunted for about 30min & the tally was 2x $1 & a bit of foil then just as i was about to do a turn in my grid pattern i spotted something out of the corner of my eye so i stepped into undetected territory & spotted on the gold colored grass a very small chain so i waved the coil over it & sure enough it was metal i picked it up & said the grand finallie of words in a hunt like this ” I FOUND IT ”
the husband who was on the grass crawling around & the woman who was following my wife around very intently both came running & with much hart felt gratitude & teary eyes
the lost item was returned to the owner
.
then came the surprise a very large hug from the hubby
not what i expected
.
so a very happy ending to a very sad start
, i got $80 in the hand the customer had the chain returned & JR got $20 for organising the job, thank you very much JR for letting me be a part of the Jewellery rescue team.

Saved by a hire service. A miraculous metal detector hire true story at Narroweena in Sydneys Northern shore. The finding of Jan’s Grandmother’s, engagement diamond ring. It was 7.30 am I had been up early that morning searching local beaches for new treasures given up by the stormy ocean’s waves and currents but that’s another story. Jan’s story began when she was standing on the balcony overlooking their yard. She tossed a stick for their bouncing boxer dog but right at the point of release she felt and saw both the stick and diamond ring leave her hand and sail across the yard into a lovely garden of huge waist high birds nest ferns. They searched the garden intensively by hand and sight even over the fence at the neighbour’s yard as a remote possibility. The ring was an irreplaceable golden heirloom lovingly entwined with the family’s historical love stories. A new ring could never take its place.

- Diamond ring 2 Meters in the sky.
So the search began where Jan best thought she saw the ring hit the fronds of a particularly large birds nest fern. The search area wasn’t particularly big but moving the metal detector search coil through brush is a tricky task at times. I moved the metal detector around, inside and up the fronds of the huge ferns. As they are designed to catch leaaves why not rings I reasoned. But not this time. About 30 minutes into the search I had pretty much covered the ground twice and apart from the normal assortment of non gold metal items found, there was no sign of the Diamond ring. Standing in the middle of the garden looking back at the balcony I was thinking that there were a couple of trees in the possible rings flight path which had lovely ferns growing in the forks of the branches. Ferns were also tied on the sides of the trees. So on a hunch, I started waving my metal detector in the air up and down the trees over my head. The look on Dennis’s face watching my unexpected tree search was basically one of disbelief . lol
At first the metal detector picked up the metal wire holding the ferns in place on the tree, but then at extreme range there was a second beep, this beep was a strong and very positive gold reading. I asked Dennis if he had a ladder, I think he found me the ladder just to humor me somewhat. So there I was waving the detector all around a tree Approx 2 meters above the ground. While waiting for the ladder, I targeted the gold signal somewhere in the fork of the tree. I swapped the metal detector for the pinpointer close work and ease of climbing the ladder to find the source of the signal. Now up the ladder looking down on the tree fern in the tree fork I didn’t need the pinpointer. There in plain sight, was the ring. Sitting sparkling in the sun nestled in the fern. Handing the engagement ring down to Dennis was a great feeling and hearing him call out to Jan “he found it” - ”Tony found it in the tree”. Jan who was on the balcony replied “what!! no! I dont believe it.” If I hadn’t been there I might not have believed it either. This is the sort of story parents will tell their children if they want them to grow up to be expert metal detectorists. The moral of this story is if you see me searching for your lost jewellery away from the “target area “ humour me as I will go the extra lengths to find your jewellery too. Dennis and Jan thank you for making me welcome in your home.
